Hi everyone and welcome back! I'm Mike, and this is the Ultimate Tech Hub. If you've followed our channel, you’ve probably seen our videos on how to make Cat 5e cables, Cat 6 cables, and even crossover cables. If not, be sure to check those out.

One of the hardest parts of making patch cables is untwisting the twisted pair wires and getting all eight wires perfectly straight. So the big question is—can this be done faster and easier?

We may have found the solution: the Untwist Tool, created by a company of the same name. This tool is specifically designed to untwist all four pairs and help straighten the wires afterward. The company sent us one for review.

The basic Untwist Tool costs $18.99. They also sell a combo pack with a cordless electric screwdriver and several attachments for $46.99. If you purchase just the basic version, you’ll need to use your own cordless drill.

To use it, strip the Ethernet cable to expose the four twisted pairs. Separate the pairs and insert one pair at a time into the tool. Make sure your drill is set to reverse—otherwise, it will twist the wires even more. Use the lowest speed possible, run the tool to the end of the wire, then remove the pair. Repeat for each pair.

After all wires are untwisted, straighten them by dragging them over the plastic wheel with light pressure several times. This will leave the wires flat and ready for insertion into the jack.

Note that using a standard drill can be tricky. If it spins too fast, the wires can get messy. It took me about four tries to really get the hang of it. I wish the company had sent the combo pack because the included electric screwdriver would probably make things a lot easier.

Still, the tool does exactly what it’s supposed to do. It works great—but expect a short learning curve while you get used to it.

So, to answer the original question: is there a faster way to untwist and straighten Ethernet wires? Yes—this tool makes the job much easier. I definitely recommend it, especially the combo set.
