How to Relocate a POE Security Camera Easily & Safely

Step-by-Step Guide to Moving a POE Camera

Relocating a POE security camera is sometimes necessary due to environmental changes, obstructions, or better vantage points. Follow these steps for a smooth and efficient installation.

Tools You Will Need:

Step 1: Remove the Camera

First, carefully unscrew the camera from the existing mount. Disconnect the POE connection, reset button cable, and power cable if applicable.

Step 2: Choose a New Location

Pick a new location with an optimal view of your desired area. Consider environmental changes like trees, buildings, or patio additions that may obstruct the view.

Step 3: Drill Mounting Holes

Use a stud finder to locate a solid spot. Drill a large enough hole to run the necessary cables through.

Step 4: Install the Mounting Bracket

Step 5: Running the Ethernet Cable

Carefully feed the Ethernet cable through the drilled hole into the attic. Ensure the cable does not get damaged or caught in tight spaces.

Step 6: Attic Installation & Cable Routing

Climb into the attic and locate the Ethernet cable. Route it to the new location and plug it into the POE switch or NVR system.

Step 7: Attach and Adjust the Camera

Secure the camera onto the mounting bracket. Once connected, use the real-time video feed from the NVR or mobile app to adjust the angle for the best view.

Final Checks:

Congratulations! You've successfully relocated your POE security camera. This method works for any POE camera, ensuring a secure and efficient setup.

Welcome back to the Ultimate Tech Hub! I'm Mike, and today we're diving into how to move a POE security camera from one location to another. There are several reasons why you might need to do this—maybe the original placement isn't ideal anymore, or an obstruction has appeared, like a tree, bush, or a new structure.

In my case, I installed a patio that blocked one of my cameras, so I needed to move it about 12 feet away. Today, I’ll guide you through the process step by step, ensuring you complete it in just one trip to the attic. This method works for any POE camera!

Step 1: Gather Your Tools

  • Ladder
  • Cordless drill
  • Drill bits
  • Wall anchors and screws
  • Patience!

Step 2: Remove the Camera

First, detach the POE camera from the mounting bracket. Unscrew the bracket and remove the camera carefully. Many cameras, like this Reolink model, have three cables: a POE connection, a reset button, and a DC power connection.

Step 3: Choose the New Location

Identify where the camera should go for the best angle. Drill a large enough hole for the Ethernet cable and mount the bracket securely.

Step 4: Running the Ethernet Cable

Push the Ethernet cable through the wall into the attic, being careful not to damage the connector.

Step 5: Attic Work

Navigate the attic carefully, walking only on the rafters. Locate the Ethernet cable, pull it through, and plug it into the new location.

Step 6: Final Adjustments

Once connected, adjust the camera using the live feed on the NVR system or mobile app.

Conclusion

Relocating a POE camera is a straightforward process when done correctly. Remember to take your time, especially in the attic, and ensure the camera is securely mounted. Thanks for watching, and don’t forget to like and subscribe!
