Custom LED Neon Sign Installation and Review

In this video, we install a custom Ultimate Tech Hub LED neon sign on the back wall of the studio. The sign was purchased from Sculpt Neon Signs and includes a clear backing, remote control, LED neon tubing, and mounting hardware. This guide walks through the buying reasons, included hardware, wall preparation, drilling, mounting, power connection, remote control features, and hidden wiring setup.

Custom Neon Sign Overview

A custom LED neon sign can add personality, branding, and a polished look to a studio, office, game room, garage, bedroom, bar area, or content creation space. In this project, the goal was to install a new Ultimate Tech Hub neon sign on the back wall of the studio.

The sign was purchased from Sculpt Neon Signs. The video notes that this was not a sponsored review and there was no affiliation with the company. The choice came down to three main reasons: price, style options, and turnaround time.

Why Choose a Clear Backing?

This custom sign was ordered with a clear backing. A clear backing helps the LED neon letters stand out while making the sign look like it is floating on the wall. This is a good design choice when you want the sign to pop without having a bulky or distracting background panel.

For a studio or YouTube background, that floating effect can look clean on camera and help the sign become a strong visual branding element.

Remote Control Features

The remote control was an added option that cost about $30 according to the video. The remote can control the sign's brightness, dim the light, turn it on or off, and activate flashing effects.

The reviewer liked the remote control features, but also mentioned two features that would have made it even better: scheduling and timer controls. A timer or schedule would allow the sign to turn on and off automatically.

Remote Feature Function
Power Control Turns the neon sign on and off.
Brightness Control Adjusts the light output brighter or dimmer.
Flash Mode Allows the sign to flash for a more animated look.
Scheduling Not included, but noted as a wished-for feature.
Timer Not included, but noted as a useful feature that would improve the remote.

Included Mounting Hardware

The sign came with mounting hardware, including screws, drywall anchors, and standoff-style pieces. These attach to the wall and hold the sign slightly away from the surface, helping create a clean finished look.

The video mentions that the sign had eight mounting holes, but the installation kit included seven screws. That is an important detail: always check the number of mounting holes and included hardware before drilling.

Preparing the Wall

Before mounting the neon sign, the soundproof panels on the back wall were removed because they were not straight. The plan was to install the neon sign first, then possibly add the panels back above it for a cleaner look.

Once the sign was positioned, the mounting locations were marked. A level was used to make sure the sign looked straight and centered. This is one of the most important parts of the installation because you want to drill once and get it right the first time.

Drilling and Installing Wall Anchors

After marking the mounting points, it was time to drill. A towel was placed behind the work area to protect the computer and nearby equipment from dust. This is a smart step when installing a sign above a desk or electronics.

The process included drilling holes, hammering drywall anchors into the wall, and then screwing in the standoff mounts. One of the mounting holes did not need a wall anchor because the screw went directly into a solid 2x4 stud.

Mounting the LED Neon Sign

Once the standoffs were installed, the sign could be mounted to the wall. The sign was lightweight, which made installation easier.

This sign is not made from traditional glass neon. Instead, it uses LED neon tubes. LED neon signs are generally lighter, safer, more durable, more affordable, and more energy-friendly than traditional glass neon signs.

According to the video, the sign also does not get hot, even after running for a long time. That makes it a practical choice for a studio, office, or content creation space where the sign may stay on during filming.

Running and Hiding the Wiring

After the sign was mounted, the wiring was routed through a hole in the desk to keep the installation clean. The remote control receiver and power supply were connected underneath the desk, helping hide the cables from view.

This step makes a big difference in the final look. A neon sign can look great on the wall, but exposed wires can make the installation look unfinished. Running the wires behind or under furniture helps create a cleaner studio setup.

Final Result

After plugging everything in and testing the remote, the sign worked successfully. The wiring was hidden under the desk, and the neon sign looked great mounted on the back wall.

The reviewer was happy with the result and said Sculpt Neon Signs did a fantastic job designing and building the sign. The installation was considered a complete success.

Custom LED Neon Sign Installation Checklist

Step What to Do
Inspect the sign Check the backing, mounting holes, hardware, power supply, and remote.
Plan the location Hold the sign on the wall and decide the best height and position.
Mark the wall Use a level and mark the mounting points carefully.
Drill holes Drill only the holes needed for the included hardware.
Install anchors Use drywall anchors when not drilling into studs.
Attach standoffs Screw the standoffs into the wall and tighten them.
Mount the sign Attach the sign to the standoffs one mounting point at a time.
Connect power Connect the sign, remote receiver, and power supply.
Hide the wires Route cables under the desk or behind furniture for a cleaner look.
Test the remote Turn the sign on, adjust brightness, and test available effects.

Final Thoughts

A custom LED neon sign is a great way to add branding and personality to a room, especially for a YouTube studio or content creation setup. The clear backing gives the sign a floating look, the remote makes it easy to control brightness and effects, and the lightweight LED design makes installation easier than traditional glass neon.

The biggest tips from this installation are to plan your placement carefully, use a level, protect nearby electronics from dust, check the hardware before drilling, and hide the wiring for a clean finished look.

What's up, guys? Welcome back to the channel. Today, we are going to install our brand-new Ultimate Tech Hub neon sign on the back wall.

We bought this sign about two weeks ago from a company called Sculpt Neon Signs. For your information, we are not sponsored by Sculpt Neon Signs, and we have no affiliation with them at all.

Why We Chose Sculpt Neon Signs

We chose this company for a few different reasons. The first reason was price. We got a great deal on Black Friday, about $140 off.

The second reason was the style choices. They had a lot of colors and styles to choose from. The third reason was the fast turnaround time. It took about 14 days from the time we ordered it to the time it was delivered.

With price, options, and fast turnaround time, Sculpt Neon Signs was a perfect choice.

Remote Control and Clear Backing

We paid a little extra for the remote. I think it was about $30. You can control the brightness, dim the light, make it flash, and turn it off.

To make this neon sign pop, I chose a clear backing. This way, when it is installed on the wall, it appears like it is floating.

One more thing: these neon signs do come with mounting hardware. This includes seven screws, seven wall anchors, and standoff-style mounting pieces. You simply attach the sign at the mounting points.

Preparing the Wall

Without further ado, let's get this sign installed.

The first thing I am going to do is take down these soundproof panels. They are not very straight, so I am taking those down first. Then I will put the sign up here, and I may add the panels back above it to make everything look a little straighter.

The plan is to place the sign right here. We are going to mark where I want to put this, and then I can use a level to make it look straight. It is important to do this one time and do it correctly.

Left and right look pretty centered, so now we can start drilling.

Drilling the Mounting Holes

I laid a towel behind the area to cover the computer from dust. I do not want any dust getting inside the computer or any areas in the back.

Now we will start drilling. This is the bit I am going to use. We will drill a hole, hammer an anchor into that hole, and then screw in the standoff-style attachment.

The sign will sit on the standoff, and the front piece clips and clamps into it. There is also a small rubber washer.

Here comes the fun part. Let's go ahead and drill.

My neon sign has eight mounting holes, but the installation kit only has seven screws. So make sure you do not drill eight holes. This sign is very lightweight.

Now let's hammer in the drywall anchors. One of the holes did not need a wall anchor because we drilled into a solid 2x4.

Installing the Standoffs

Now it is time to screw in all seven standoffs.

Mounting the Neon Sign

Now it is time to put the light up. It should be pretty easy. We will go one at a time with the mounting points.

What is great about this neon sign is that it is very lightweight. That is because it is not made with typical neon sign material. It is not made of glass. This neon sign is made with LED neon tubes, which are safe, affordable, durable, and friendly to the environment.

No matter how long you run this neon sign, it does not get hot.

Connecting and Hiding the Wiring

Now it is time to run the wire through the hole in the desk. These are the connections to the remote control. Plug this into the remote control. I am going to mount the remote receiver underneath the desk, but first I am going to run the wire through the hole where the rest of the wires are so everything has a nice clean look.

Once everything is plugged in, we are going to mount this underneath the desk. This one will plug in underneath here. This is the power supply, and I need to plug it in underneath the desk. I have plenty of room under here for plugs.

Now we can test it with the trusty remote. Turn it off and turn it on. Success.

Final Result

I will add the soundproof panels back above this to finish it off and give it a nice clean look up top. I will make sure it is straight, but I will do that off camera. I am also going to mount everything underneath the desk off camera.

All right, guys. We are all done. The neon sign is mounted, it looks great, and all the wiring is hidden under the desk. This is a complete success.

Sculpt Neon Signs did a fantastic job designing and building our neon sign.
