This is the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas, the world’s largest four-dimensional spherical structure. It incorporates the most advanced audio and visual technology available, making it the ideal venue for concerts and shows.
The outer layer of the sphere, called the exosphere, features 1.2 million LED pucks, each containing 48 LEDs. This allows the exterior to dynamically transform, essentially becoming “living architecture.”
The sphere stands 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide. It includes 18,600 seats across nine levels, each offering a 4D immersive experience that includes wind, temperature changes, scent, motion, and even rain—making it the most advanced simulator of its kind.
The interior boasts a massive 160,000 square foot LED screen with a resolution of 16K x 16K, the largest in the world—three times larger than the screen at the TSX Broadway project in Times Square.
Audio is equally impressive, with 164,000 individual speakers using beamforming technology to deliver immersive sound to every seat. The venue is designed so that there's no bad seat in the house.
Construction included bringing in a DMAG CC 8800 crawler crane from Belgium, capable of lifting 1,600 tons. The compression ring at the center weighed 180 tons, and the roof was assembled using 3,000 tons of steel across 32 trusses. Over 6,000 cubic yards of concrete were poured—10 inches thick and totaling around 10,000 tons.
To support the massive LED and audio systems, a 730-ton steel frame was installed. Overall, the structure incorporates 75,000 tons of concrete, 12 million pounds of rebar, and 11,000 tons of steel. Internally, there are over 100,000 feet of Ethernet, electrical, and fiber optic cables, as well as lighting and audio wiring.
The grand opening featured U2 performing live on September 29 and 30. The Sphere also has a full events calendar throughout 2023 and into 2024.
Located east of the Palazzo, the Venetian, and the Sands Expo Convention Center, the Sphere is easy to find. If you want to view it without paying the $20 fee, drive down Manhattan Street and turn onto Westchester Drive. There’s free parking near the office buildings, and you can walk across the street to enjoy a stunning view.
