Looking to upgrade your home network? This guide explores the top 5 wireless routers of 2025—from budget-friendly options to powerful Wi-Fi 7 routers for gaming, streaming, and mesh setups. Whether you're a power user, gamer, or just need better speeds across a large home, there's a perfect router here for your needs.
If you're planning to upgrade to multi-gig internet or Wi-Fi 7 devices, any of these routers—especially the GE800, Deco BE67, or GT-BE98 Pro—are smart, future-proof choices.
If you're in the market for a new wireless router, this guide is for you. I’ve picked my top five personal favorite wireless routers that fit all budgets and home types.
First up is my top Wi-Fi 7 gaming router for large homes and families using a 1 Gbps or faster internet connection: the TP-Link Archer GE800. This powerhouse offers tri-band Wi-Fi 7, two 10Gbps ports, and four 2.5Gbps ports. We use it with a 2 Gbps fiber connection and it fully maxes out both wired and wireless speeds. There’s also a dedicated gaming port, plus customizable RGB lights for aesthetics.
The TP-Link app is feature-packed. My favorite tab is Game Center, which includes:
It supports the 6 GHz band and MLO (Multi-Link Operation), and Smart Connect combines the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Our wired speed tests hit 2 Gbps, while our Wi-Fi 7 laptop hit over 2 Gbps wirelessly—even 30 to 40 feet away. At 100 feet, we still hit 272 Mbps (MLO) and 316 Mbps (Smart Connect).
The included HomeShield offers basic controls and traffic analysis, while the Pro version adds advanced parental controls—but it’s pricey ($70 first year, $130 renewal). Good news: the router works perfectly without the subscription.
Current price: $499, but we’ve seen it as low as $329 during sales—an incredible deal.
Next, the best budget Wi-Fi 6E gaming router: the MSI Radix AXE6600. This tri-band router includes a 6 GHz band and supports 8 streams up to 6.6 Gbps. It also features AI QoS to optimize network traffic, a cool design with RGB lights, and a quad-core processor for reliable performance. Ports include four 1Gbps and one 2.5Gbps WAN. At 100 feet, we still saw speeds of 150–200 Mbps through a wall. Price: just $119—excellent value.
Third, the best budget Wi-Fi 7 router: the ASUS RT-BE58U. For $149.99, you get a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 router with MLO. It has five ports—three LAN, one WAN/LAN, and one 2.5Gbps WAN/LAN. Note: it does not support 6 GHz, but that’s expected at this price. Our wired tests maxed out at 1 Gbps, but wireless hit 2 Gbps. Coverage is ~2,000 sq ft with four antennas. No subscriptions are needed, and the ASUS app is very user-friendly.
ASUS has been ranked #1 in PCMag for 13 years running—this router is high quality despite its price.
Fourth, the best mesh Wi-Fi 7 system: the TP-Link Deco BE67. This tri-band mesh system supports eight spatial streams and includes 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands. Combined speeds reach BE14000 levels. Each node includes a 1Gbps, 2.5Gbps, and 10Gbps port—autosensing for WAN. There’s also a USB 3.0 port that supports Time Machine. It covers up to 8,100 sq ft and includes features like:
Speeds exceeded 2 Gbps on our Wi-Fi 7 laptop from 40 feet away. It’s a high-end, performance-driven system that blurs the line between consumer and enthusiast-grade mesh networks.
Fifth and finally, my all-time favorite router: the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-BE98 Pro. This beast is a quad-band Wi-Fi 7 gaming router with dual 6 GHz bands, one 5 GHz, and one 2.4 GHz. Combined, it offers up to BE30000 speeds.
Under the hood: a 2.6 GHz quad-core CPU, 2 GB RAM, dual 10Gbps ports, multiple 2.5Gbps ports, a 1Gbps port, and USB for peripherals or storage. On the software side, it features:
At launch, MLO and AFC weren’t supported, but firmware updates are expected. In testing, we saw over 2.7 Gbps at short range on the 6 GHz band and 1.5 Gbps on the 5 GHz band. Peak throughput hit over 3.1 Gbps, and long-range testing showed 1.78 Gbps. That’s insane performance.
Retail price was $800, but many agree the hardware justifies it—especially for future-proofing. If your ISP plan is under 2–3 Gbps or your devices are Wi-Fi 6 or older, this might be overkill. But if you're building a network with multi-gig plans and Wi-Fi 7 devices in mind, it's one of the best routers you can buy today.
