MediaTek Wi-Fi 7 Demo Shows Massive Speed Boost Over Wi-Fi 6

Wi-Fi 7 is almost here—and MediaTek has just shown us what's possible. In this video breakdown, we review MediaTek's first public demonstration of Wi-Fi 7 and explore the groundbreaking technologies that will power the next generation of wireless connectivity. From ultra-fast speeds to Multi-Link Operation (MLO), Wi-Fi 7 is shaping up to be a game-changer for home, office, and industrial networks.

Wi-Fi 7 Speed & Demo Breakdown – MediaTek Leads the Way

What Is Wi-Fi 7 and How Fast Is It?

Multi-Link Operation (MLO)

MLO is one of Wi-Fi 7’s most exciting features. It allows devices to connect over multiple frequency bands simultaneously, ensuring smooth performance—even in congested environments. This is crucial for activities like:

Real-World Adoption Timeline

While MediaTek demonstrated Wi-Fi 7 successfully, the 802.11be standard is still in draft form and expected to be certified by 2024. That said, devices will begin launching as early as 2023—though they may come with premium price tags.

Wi-Fi 7 vs Previous Standards

Wi-Fi Standard Max Speed (Gbps)
Wi-Fi 5 3.5 Gbps
Wi-Fi 6 9.6 Gbps
Wi-Fi 7 30–40+ Gbps

Should You Upgrade?

If you have a 100–200 Mbps internet plan, upgrading now may not offer immediate benefits. However, for enthusiasts, gamers, and businesses, Wi-Fi 7 will bring performance leaps worth the investment. And yes—if you’re a home networking geek, you’re probably already planning your Wi-Fi 7 upgrade!

Let us know in the comments what you think about Wi-Fi 7 and whether you'll be upgrading once it’s available. Thanks for watching!

Wi-Fi 7 is finally here... kind of. MediaTek recently hosted the first public Wi-Fi 7 demo, and it showed that Wi-Fi 7 is 2.4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6. That’s incredible.

Keep in mind this test was done under optimal conditions. I can’t wait to see real-world performance in homes, offices, or industrial settings.

MediaTek refers to their Wi-Fi 7 technology as “Filogic.” Their demo highlighted high speeds and low latency, complying with the upcoming IEEE 802.11be standard—officially known as Wi-Fi 7.

What’s really cool? Wi-Fi 7 achieves its speed boost without adding extra antennas. Thanks to 320 MHz channels and 4K QAM, it outpaces Wi-Fi 6 dramatically. For context:

  • Wi-Fi 5 tops out at 3.5 Gbps
  • Wi-Fi 6 reaches 9.6 Gbps
  • Wi-Fi 7 may exceed 30 or even 40 Gbps

Wi-Fi 7 will support 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands, making it compatible with many existing networks. It’s ideal for 8K video, VR, cloud gaming, and more.

Let’s talk about MLO—Multi-Link Operation. This combines multiple frequency bands to keep traffic flowing smoothly, even when there’s interference. That’s a huge win for streamers and gamers who rely on stable connections.

While the standard isn’t finalized yet, MediaTek expects Wi-Fi 7 products to roll out in 2023, with IEEE certification arriving in 2024.

Wi-Fi 7 is expected to become the backbone of future networks across homes, offices, and industries. Think 4K cloud gaming, 8K video calls, and seamless data access.

That said, Wi-Fi 6 is still fairly new—and pricey. Mesh systems can range from $400 to $1,500. And with many homes still on Wi-Fi 5 or modest ISP plans, Wi-Fi 7 might not make sense just yet.

It’ll likely hit businesses first, but if you're a home networking geek like me, you’re already planning to get it. I know I am!

Let me know in the comments: Will you upgrade to Wi-Fi 7? What are your thoughts?
