How to Set Up Two Wireless Routers on the Same Network

Step 1: Choosing Primary and Secondary Routers

When setting up two routers, assign the newer and more advanced router as the primary (Router 1) and the older one as the secondary (Router 2).

Step 2: Configuring the Primary Router

Ensure Router 1 is connected to your modem and properly configured.
Log into the router’s admin panel and note its IP address, usually 192.168.1.1.
Set the wireless channel between 1 and 6 to minimize interference.

Step 3: Configuring the Secondary Router

Connect Router 2 to a computer via Ethernet.
Log into Router 2’s admin panel.
Change its IP address to 192.168.2.1 (incrementing the third digit).
Ensure the subnet mask matches Router 1.
Set Router 1’s IP as the default gateway for Router 2.

Step 4: Adjusting Wireless Settings

Use the same SSID and password on both routers for seamless roaming.
Set Router 2 to use Channel 11 to prevent interference with Router 1.
Disable UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) on Router 2.

Step 5: Disabling DHCP on Router 2

Find the DHCP settings in Router 2’s admin panel.
Disable DHCP to prevent it from assigning conflicting IP addresses.

Step 6: Connecting the Two Routers

Use an Ethernet cable to connect a LAN port on Router 1 to a LAN port on Router 2.
Avoid using the WAN port on Router 2 to maintain the same network.

Step 7: Testing the Connection

Restart both routers and test wired and wireless connections.

When it comes to Home Networking adding 2 wireless routers to a single network can be a difficult task So, today I'm going to show the quickest and easiest way to set this up! So first thing is, we'll need 2 wireless routers. And with these 2 wireless routers Which ever one is the newest and the best... We'll make that the primary router. And the second router will be the secondary router. So I'm going to call the primary router, router number 1 And the secondary router, router number 2 So first thing, Is make sure both of these wireless routers are near your computer. You'll need to access these routers via the computer. Now with router 1 This is probably the easiest setup. Because the only change you'll need to make, is within the wireless setting Simply change the wireless router setting to use any channel between one and six. and also take note, of the IP address for this router And typically the IP address is 192.168.1.1 Now I'm going to go on the assumption... that your primary router is already setup and functioning properly. So next go ahead and plug in router two into the computer via the ethernet cable. connect and log in Next go to your settings And change the ip address on the second router to match the ip address of the first router But the third digit you want to increase the number by one So. if router number one has an IP address of 192.168.1.1 We want router twos IP address to be 192.168.2.1 and once the ip address is set... make sure the subnet mask matches both routers. and also set the Internet Gateway of router two router to router ones ip address. And if router two as UPnP you want to make sure that's disabled. Next on the wireless settings for router two... make sure to setup your wireless security to be identical on router two as it is on router one like the ssid should be the same... the password should be the same and the wireless security settings should be exactly the same. I use WAP2 you want to the set the wireless network to use channel 11 this will prevent ip conflicts on the network. and one more thing... in the last setting on router two is disable the DHCP server now log out of router two and unplug it from your computer now plug router two into router one via a LAN connection So plug in one end of the cable from the LAN on router 2 into one end LAN on router 1 And that's it, your done!!!! And it didn't cost you a Million Dollars!!! LOL!!
