Is your vacuum running but failing to pick up dirt? Over time, vacuums can develop blockages that prevent them from working efficiently. In this guide, we’ll walk you through a simple step-by-step process to clean your vacuum, remove clogs, and restore its suction power. Follow these easy DIY repair steps to save time and money!
Start by inspecting the roller brush. If it’s tangled with hair and debris, use scissors to cut it free. Unscrew the vacuum cover (typically two Phillips-head screws) to access the main suction area.
Look inside the vacuum’s intake path for blockages. Most clogs occur in the roller area or the hose leading to the vacuum bag or canister.
Use a screwdriver, back scratcher, or wire hanger to pull out dirt and debris from the clogged area. If the blockage is deep, a long tool like a coat hanger can help dislodge stuck material.
Secure the roller and cover back into place. Tighten the screws and make sure the roller is seated correctly. Plug in the vacuum and test its performance.
After clearing the clog, run the vacuum on a carpeted surface. If the vacuum bag or canister starts filling up, the issue has been resolved. Proper suction should now be restored.
Fixing a clogged vacuum is a simple process that requires only a few tools. By following these steps, you can restore suction power, improve cleaning performance, and extend the lifespan of your vacuum. If your vacuum frequently clogs, consider routine maintenance to prevent recurring issues.
