Fibre Vs Copper - Home Networking 101
Watch on YouTube
hi guys on today's episode we're going to compare fiber optics versus copper and find out which is the best option for you i'm mike and this is the ultimate tech hub [Music] so in the last decade or so fiber optic cabling has been replacing copper at a steady pace so this brings up an important question why is fiber optics so popular now well to answer that question i'm going to give you my top six reasons why fiber is better than copper first and foremost is speed fiber optic networks operate at high speeds up into the high gigabits next is bandwidth fiber optic networks have a large carrying capacity next is distance fiber optic signals can be transmitted further without needing to be refreshed or strengthened next is resistance fiber optic networks have a greater resistance to electromagnetic noise such as radios or motors or other nearby cables next is maintenance fiber optic cables cost much less to maintain than copper and the last reason why fiber is better than copper it's more secure it is way more difficult to tap fiber optic cables than traditional copper cables but keep in mind it is possible to tap fiber cables with the right tools and the right technique however doing this can be difficult without disrupting the network and one more thing the signals of fiber optic cables are considered dielectric and do not transmit electricity and this makes data interception very difficult so guys with all these reasons why fiber is better than copper it makes switching to fiber a very easy choice the only downside to fiber is it's not available in every area at least not yet but with the current trend of fiber replacing copper it's more likely to be in your area sooner than later and over the last few years the price for fiber optics has gone down dramatically you can get one gig speeds for less than 70 dollars so with all this information i hope this helps you decide whether to stick with cable or make the leap to fiber optics well guys we're all done here and as usual i want to thank you for watching if you like this video give a thumbs up and share it if you love it hit subscribe to keep this channel alive thanks again for watching you
