hi guys welcome back to the ultimate
tech hub
on today's episode we're going to talk
about email scams
i want to show you how to spot these
scams and how to avoid them
let's take a look at a few examples so
let's first take a look at my junk
folder
i have set my inbox to receive emails
only from my contact list
everything else goes to my junk folder
with most email programs
you can set your inbox to receive emails
only from contacts
so do that right away so let's see if we
can spot some email scams
so this one's a pretty popular scam i
get these quite a bit
the email will say congratulations you
won some money or a gift card
this one says act quickly let's look at
another email
this one is from ups now this could be a
real email from ups
or it could be a scam i'll have to dig
further
to find out and there's a walmart email
this one looks a lot like amazon let's
look further down to find a different
type of scam
now this one is definitely a scam now
this is your typical old school
nigerian scam if you see something like
this
delete it right away and the last
example looks like it's a netflix
email scam it appears they want me to
update my billing information
for my netflix account so now we see
some examples of email scams or
potential email scams
let's go through each individual email
in detail
the first email scam is amazon notice
this email has a huge red flag on it
look at the email address from where
it's sent from
and it's not from amazon the next email
is the ups email now this one could be
real
because i do have my username in this
email but whatever you do
do not click on this email go to ups.com
and log in with your username and
password and if there's an issue
there will be a message on that website
so one of the biggest scams
is the nigerian scam and these scams are
super easy to spot
this email will say something like
someone has died and left you a bunch of
money
usually it's going to be in the millions
and it will say please contact me to get
your money
whatever you do do not contact them
you want to mark this email as a
phishing scam
block the email and delete it
and the last email scam is the netflix
scam
i get the same email about once a week
and the funny thing is
i do not have a netflix account but the
scam is
you click on the link in the email to
update your billing information
your name address credit card and now
the scammer
has everything they need to charge your
credit card if you think you need to
update your netflix information
go to netflix.com and log in to see if
that's correct
but this is definitely a scam like this
netflix scam
there are a multitude of different
companies using the same scam
i get paypal scams amazon scams
ebay scams a multitude of bank scams
mostly from banks that i don't even bank
at there's western union scams
sam's club or walmart scams or costco
scams
so remember if it's too good to be true
then it's definitely a scam
and a couple more things if the email
says something like
urgent act now final notice
the use of these words plays on your
emotions
the emailer wants you to act quickly
without thinking
and this is definitely a scam and for
some reason you think it's not a scam
just look at the email from where it
came from the sender's email address
if the email is from amazon but the
email address from the sender is not
from amazon
that's a huge red flag it's definitely a
scam
